    Xavier Grau

Xavier Grau (Barcelona, 1951) pushed along to Broto, Gonzalo Tena and Javier Rubio, one of the strong points of the debate plastic Spanish during the seventies. In the framework of that exhibition, these artists introduced the number zero of the magazine Frame, which became the manifesto programme of a new artistic conception that is decantaba by the pictorial practice as an autonomous exercise.

Grau inherits the distinctive character of abstract expressionism, a source of strength, expressive power and emotional. Closely linked to the manifestations characteristic of the New York School, and in particular to De Kooning, Gorky and Guston, painting Grau is diverted to an abstraction, which maintains unaltered the internal tension between the color and the drawing, without reducing its liveliness colour and movement of their surfaces, which are contained by the rhythm of the forms that articulate its internal structure.

His work forms part of museums and public collections such as the Collection of The Bragales (Santander), Contemporary Art Collection “La Caixa” (Barcelona), MACBA Museu d'art Contemporani de Barcelona (Barcelona) or MNCARS Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid).
